Interaction of winter wheat varieties with conditions of the habitat in the formation of the yielding levels on the basis of post-registratioin cultivat testing in lower Silesia

Summary. Yields of 11 cultivars of winter wheat were evaluated in post-registration (recommended list) trials in Lower Silesia in the years 2007–2009. The experiments were conducted in standard and intensive cropping systems at 7 locations differing in weather and soil conditions. The intensive variant, in comparison with the standard one, differed by a 40 kg/h-1 higher level of nitrogen fertilisation, the application of anti-lodging chemicals, foliar feeding of plants with microelements and complete control of fungal diseases. The cultivars Rapsodia and Cubus were the best yielders in standard systems, whereas Cubus and Nadobna gave high yields in the intensive system. Changing atmospheric conditions in the three studied years, and especially water deficit during the vegetation season of plants on lighter soils, resulted in lower yield stability of the investigated wheat cultivars Considerable differences in yields in some of the localities suggest the need for testing new varieties in many environments, because of the significant genotype – environment interaction.
